Chapter 13
Chapter 13 is a way to repay a portion of your debt over a 3 to 5 year period and, at the end of the period, discharge the then remaining sums due. Also, you can often modify the amounts due and the interest rates due on secured debts for vehicles and real property. In some circumstances second mortgages can be "stripped off" and turned from a secured debt into an unsecured debt which is discharged at the end of the case.
