What types of debt are included in a bankruptcy discharge?

When filing bankruptcy you have to list all assets and debts.  Some are dischargeable in bankruptcy, some are not.

Debts that you can discharge in a bankruptcy generally are:

  • credit cards
  • personal loans
  • bank loans

Debts that you can not normally discharge with a bankruptcy:

  • most taxes
  • child support
  • alimony
  • student loans

Also, some debts that are not dischargeable in a chapter 7 bankruptcy can be dischargeable in a chapter 13.
